Our ad-hoc automotive expert came up with the idea of fleeing to Downtown Toronto to see a bunch of these cars, and I tagged along. Our yearly auto show visit started on the 26th of February, 2005.
Autoshow 2005 was my personal first; I wasn't much of a car fan at all, for if I did express an interest in becoming one, I'd be busy becoming an auto mechanic instead of being a manic writer/host extraordinaire for Phil Liz and Lucy.
As Brandon scuttled into the paths that belittle you in front of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, it was a capitalist paradise. People giving out fliers to the crowds that hoard here every year were suddenly in awe, in love more with the new designs of the Big 3 models, then the ones they married to, walking right beside them. But this wasn't a time for eye candy...
It was about touching and groping. Touching and groping the cars that is. Obviously, this would be a perfectly legal operation going on, and Brandon wasn't hesitant in participating. So there he was, throbbing the automatic gear shift on some Kia minivan, whilst I was busy in a smaller mid-sized car, poking my head out for air, for my lung almost collapsed after trying to fit into the model in the first place.
2005 was home to a lot of posh cars, from cars with Team Canada's livery to cars that... happen to not come from Canada at all. I must ask those people at Ferrari how they could export their vehicles in such pristine condition when my packages come out ripped and broken every time I ship overseas.
And Brandon was Brandon. Busy fondling with those manual models to see if he can drive manual in the near future (which, by publishing time, he still can't).
There WAS something wrong with Brandon at that point in time; he was still bloody upset over the name change of SkyDome. The paint was still fresh when we went to the Rogers Centre (sorry, Brandon), and off we were to see this huge Dodge Viper hanging about like it was some bloody trapeze act in Cirque de Soleil.
The cursing and intensity of cursing continued as we passed by the Chrysler and Dodge section; something out of instinct from Brandon, until he found those new Jeep models. It was love at first sight when Brandon stood alongside a Jeep Cherokee slithered with mud.
We headed out of the Rogers Centre/Skydome building and literally squeezed into one of... only one shuttles provided by the organisers of the Autoshow. But Brandon and I were satisfied, with everything recorded down.
So off we were, to Fairview Mall to have a little afternoon chow before our trip home, thus completing our first "official" auto show. Which meant more work for me.
