Jory Rose is probably not the kind of person you'd think of when it comes to the
indie stereotype. On the contrary, his musical style compliments professional acts,
and there is no obvious difference in quality. This is what makes him unique.
As an indie singer, fans adore him for possesing such a soulful, passionate voice.
Some even compare his singing style to Tom Jones, and he definitely does fit the bill.
I recently talked to him about his roots in music.
PHIL: So, what is your inspiration in your great sounding tracks?
JORY: I'm from a large family, and all my older brothers and sisters were
really into music, you know from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s. So, music was a big part
of my life and I always enjoyed it. I liked being able to express myself musically.
PHIL: I assume that, listening to a lot of your music, that you take a more
Adult Contemporary look into producing music, rather than the "indie stereotype"
of rock rock all the way. How does it feel to produce music that has a lighter
genre?
JORY: Well I really like to have fun with music so I guess it ends up
being "lighter", you know. I like different genres like dance, country, rock or pop.
So I guess I have more of a lighter feel.
PHIL: Has the internet helped you in the promotion of you as an artist?
JORY: The internet has been great for promoting myself and my music.
My website is
JoryRose.com
and people have accessed it from all over the world. Somebody will hear one
of my songs and then they'll go to my website and there they'll see me in
music videos or they'll see some of my comedy, some scenes from my musical
comedy play I wrote I've been starting. The internet has been just great for my career.
PHIL: What is your passion in relations to music itself?
JORY: I like expressing myself, especially I enjoy expressing deep
feelings. Feelings about other people who are important in my life. I like
expressing comedic ideas and stuff like that. So I have a lot of passion to
do with music and writing in different genres helps me to express that.
PHIL: Has music enriched other parts of your life?
JORY: Yes, definitely. Music has enriched just about every other part
of my life. It's there with me when I'm creating, it's there when I'm doing comedy.
It's there basically at every major event of my life. So yeah, music is very important.
As mentioned, Jory Rose has a website at JoryRose.com. You can check out his latest works from there.
