Georgina

Georgina (or Keswick to be exact) is, someways, of good sentimental value to Brandon and I. This is the place we first became friends, and this is the place where Phil Liz and Lucy got its first popular boost. It seems a long ways away from our original location in Vaughan, but Keswick will remain quite a significant place to rest our memories in. At first, Keswick wasn't even part of the Town of Georgina. The most northern reach of York Region was split in half into the (former) Town of Georgina and the Town of North Gwillimbury, which Keswick was a part of. Quite recently, those two towns merged to the current Georgina, and with a bit of political decisions set aside, this cottage country community is turning into a growing suburb itself. Keswick reminds me of a really young suburb of Toronto like Brampton, with all its two-laned streets, and the little shop or store and two. But it seems like everything is starting to change with significant amounts of its population devoted to making it more of a bedroom community, and it seems everyone nowadays commutes south for work. In a way, that is beneficial to both Keswick and its citizens. Land taxes as a result of home ownership go to better town services, and eventually, all of its households will be connected to the town water table save for a septic tank or two out in the rural reaches. It seems that this town is really unique in its ways: its roots in farming means some days the main arterial roads connecting to Keswick are clogged, not due to traffic, but from the slow-moving farm vehicles that need to get from one place to another. A fetish that continues to this day is the town's fetish towards trucks; though some may dispute this claim, it is always normal to see a heavy Ford F-150 driving somewhere in this town anytime throughout the day. The big box conglomerates have somehow arrived, but promises of a Wal-mart in Keswick is still a promise not kept, which, in a way, is a godsend to a place with so much unidentified culture. I haven't an idea why I love this community so much, but the good memories it brings back to me from high school make Phil Liz and Lucy what it is today. |
