Election Reform in America

Why it's desperately needed and what you can do!

By Vickie Karp and Abbe Waldman DeLozier, co-editors of HACKED! High Tech Election Theft in America.

Though many voters in America are pleased with the results of the 2008 Presidential election, we can assure you of this: American elections are still rife with fraud and the ability for elections to be stolen undetectably, right under the noses of its citizens.

For the last six years we have been working as volunteers educating the public about the need for major election reform in America. 95% of all Americans are using some type of electronic voting system to either cast their ballot, to count it, or both. No matter which of these is true for you, the result is the same: Secret vote counting. In a country that prides itself on its democratic process, elections conducted with secret software that is protected by trade secret laws should be viewed as totally unacceptable by all of our citizens. The truth is, corporations now control our elections, and there is no real way to verify any election results anymore... whether you like who won the election... or not.

We'd like to share a few more facts about the crisis state of our elections in America today, and offer some suggestions for citizens who become impassioned, as we have, to take some action on this critical issue.

We ask you to consider the well-documented fact that when using a paperless touch screen voting machine, your vote is being cast into cyberspace, free to be tampered with by an unknown number of unseen programming experts. Even though you supposedly verify how you cast your vote on a summary screen, this process should give a voter little confidence, according to computer experts who have proven multiple ways to undetectably tamper with election results inside the "black box" of the voting machine, even while you are "verifying your vote" on a summary screen, or perhaps on a "voter verified paper audit trail" or "paper receipt".

As detailed in our book, HACKED! High Tech Election Theft in America - 11 Experts Expose the Truth, we document the myriad of unexplained "glitches" that occur with these machines, such as thousands more votes than voters; three candidates in one election each receiving 18,181 votes (!!!) in the same race; 18,000 "undervotes" in a highly contested Florida race that was decided by 369 votes; (an undervote is when a voter casts a ballot but supposedly doesn't vote in a particular race). In the 2000 Presidential Election in Florida, Gore was about to concede to Bush when it was discovered that the Diebold e-voting machines had recorded 16,022 negative votes for Gore; once those were reversed out, he was again in the lead, so he did not concede the election that night.

Why, we hope you would ask yourself, would a voting machine even have the capability of recording negative votes?

We are told that the voting machines are "safe" because they are tested by "Independent Testing Agencies".

How independent are they when they are paid by the same vendors whose machine they test?
