Rules of the Road

I was driving to the DMV to take my written test for my motorcycle license when dozens of bicyclists riding in group formation in the middle of the lane impeded the traffic. Now don't get me wrong, I believe in sharing the road but sharing means everyone shares. I've biked all over the world and enjoy it. While in Paris I took a Fat Tire Bike Tour of the City; however, we all stayed in single line formation. At 49 years of age, I have been driving cars in many cultures and road conditions since I was 15. I can tell you that someone should scoop up these bike idiots and lock them away. I don't know what is clicking in their minds that they feel they always have the right of way. I'm sorry, you don't have the right of way if you are in the road in an illegal manner. I've seen these enthusiasts run red lights on a busy highway! I can honestly say that everyone I know or read about that has gotten hurt or killed by an auto in a biking accident; the biker or bikers were doing something illegal in the road. Cars are zipping along at 60 miles an hour, hauling a lot of weight; they cannot stop as fast as a biker can... THINK.

As these thoughts were irritating me, I was thinking of my own bicycle riding. I always try and remember I'm on a street with killer machines whizzing by and considering my small size compared to them, I need to show some respect. Now here I find myself getting ready to walk into the DMV for a motorcycle license. Similar thoughts were crossing my mind. Many times a motorcyclist would buzz by me at intersections, or buzz between me and another car, what recklessness I remember thinking. I just hope that when I start riding my Motorcycle that I'll use common sense and respect the rules of the road as well as other drivers. Looking forward to taking my test (I studied hard) I walked into the DMV.

I already own two cars, well the 4 Wheel Drive Xterra is insured as my car and the Altima is my wife's, which we will sell as soon as I get my motorcycle license. At that time we'll own a 4 wheel drive Xterra and a scooter, which I need a motorcycle license for in order to ride it on the streets of San Diego. I recall the last time I owned two cars was before I was married. I first owned a 240sx limited edition Nissan Convertible, and it was great to have in San Diego. I remember many a day cruising the beach, wind in my hair, the beach babes catching a long and hearty glance. Oh, and it was fast too. I would pass those electric cars and economy cars like they were standing still. I'd smile and waved at them as I whizzed by and they just turned their heads and provided a non verbal, non Christian finger gesture towards me.

One day when I returned home from one such beach combing adventure, I received a letter from my credit union. Evidently, I was pre-approved for a car loan up to 50,000 dollars at 4% interest! OMG and they were having a car lot sale, no negotiating; sticker price is the price, that very afternoon. Though I decided I didn't need or want a new car, I'd just go and have a peek. I didn't have much else going on and no one else that I needed approval from, so out the door I went.
