Interview: The Life Below

What got this band together and started in this business?

We had a love for playing the music and really wanna do something in this town.

Who writes and produces all the material for the band?

The main lyric writer and guitars is John - our Lead Vocalist and Lead Guitarist.

Has the band played in front of or with any acts our readers would know from the mainstream?

None really. Some of the best names we've had the honor to play with is Gulch from Andover and Seasons After from Wichita.

Where can people access your music on the web?

You can listen to us and learn about us on MySpace and Purevolume. We're currently working on getting a Facebook page up.

Any embarrassing moments on stage?

Haha the most embarrassing was when our former drummer (Richard Jones) fell off the back of the stage when his drum throne slid.

Any good stories you want to tell us?

We went and played a show in Garden City, KS. Had to deal with some crazy drunk chick and ended up having to crawl through a corn field and our guitarist got punched by her haha. On the way home we got pulled over for speeding and didn't get back until about 6:00 in the morning. That sucked.

Who are the band's musical influences?

We're really inspired by a lot of local artist. A lot of 80s artists, nu metal, and classic rock. We're vary quite a bit.

How did the band get together?

The band was formed by John. Started pulling end some friends and came up with TLB.

What is your musical background like?

We started with a really... confused sound. We weren't really sure what we were playing because there was so much we wanted to play. Lately though we've been setting in on a real good alternative sound. A lot like the music today. We've also had a lot of band members, and with every single one there lies a lot of memories. We would like to give a big shout out to ex drummer Cameron Johnson who is currently a marine in Iraq, ex drummer Richard Jones who is an army soldier, and Jeremy Perry who is soon to be army strong.

Any other members in your family that are musicians?

John's dad was the one who really inspired and kept us going. He's the one who taught John how to play and has always been behind him and the dream.

What is the TOP reason why you want to play music?

To have fun. We love playing live show's more than anything else and have a lot of fun hanging out and making music.

What's your stance on file swapping?

We've done it. But its best to keep a very low limit.

What is the process of making a CD?

Recording can be so difficult. You can finish but then hear one mistake and have to go back and redo. Sometimes it can take a real long time, sometimes it's done real quick. After that depending on how professional you want to go with CD jackets and what not, it can get real expensive. But in the end it's all worth it to get your music out there.

How do you get the word out about your music?

Play shows, hand out CD's, if you have to give them out for free, people love free stuff.

How is your local response to your music?

Our friends and other people here in town love us! Normally when we get offstage we're given a lot of compliments which is cool. They say it's something unique and really like hearing and watching us.

What is the furthest you have traveled for a gig?

Our furthest was to Garden City, that was about a 2 1/2 to 3 hours away. That sucked and was a long trip haha.

What tune on the CD are you most proud of?

Our favorite song on the whole CD is probably The Word Isn't Fair. Has a real good rhythm, it's really active, and its a lot of fun to play.
