Interview: Ferocious Mary

What got this band together and started in this business?

Sean got a fire under all of us and organized the direction of focus... recording CDs and gigging.

Who writes and produces all the material for the band?

Carmen does, but new music will be collaboratively written.

Has the band played in front of or with any acts our readers would know from the mainstream?

No. We are a newly formed band looking for that opportunity.

Where can people access your music on the web?

MySpace, ReverbNation, iTunes, DigStation, CD Baby, Amazon MP3
www.myspace.com/ferociousmary
www.reverbnation.com/ferociousmary

Any embarrassing moments on stage?

Aaron spilled a drink on Brian's all tube bass amp and blew it just before sound check, and later Carmen's piano candelabra holders all broke from way too much heat from the candles.

Any good stories you want to tell us?

The band's first show was at Sean's (drummer) 21st birthday party, well over a year before the band was in "serious mode" of writing and recording. It was kind of a thrown together thing with only a few rehearsals.

Who are the band's musical influences?

Rush, Coheed & Cambria, Korn, Slipknot, Tool

How did the band get together?

We all met at an open mic jam that was in Downtown Wichita.

What is your musical background like?

CARMEN AND BRIAN: Playing and gigging together since we were teenagers. Both self taught, no musical training.

SEAN: Playing and gigging in clubs at age 15. Completion of two Bachelors Degrees in music with a Masters Degree to be finished Fall 2009. I teach private drum lessons and freelance for other musicians on a regular basis.

Any other members in your family that are musicians?

CARMEN: Both of my brothers have had success in the music industry, with one of them being nominated for a Grammy.

SEAN: My brother Aaron is the guitar player in the band, oldest brother and mother played saxophone in school and grandmother is an accomplished organist.

What is the TOP reason why you want to play music?

We want to bring something different to the table and inspire those listening to be passionate in whatever their ventures and we I like to play.

What's your stance on file swapping?

We are in favor of bands sharing music to help promote themselves.

What is the process of making a CD?

The process is smooth if you are well rehearsed, which we were heading into the studio. We recorded our entire album in 3 6-hour sessions, pretty fast for a full-length record.

How do you get the word out about your music?

Word of mouth, internet and gig swapping.

How is your local response to your music?

Although relatively new to the scene, our local response has been good. Many listeners have commented that our music is quite unique which makes us different... like Altoid mints.

What is the furthest you have traveled for a gig?

Salina, KS.

What tune on the CD are you most proud of?

"He Is Out To Get You" because of all the small nuances that made the song really come to life in the studio.
