Interview: Disonic

What got this band together and started in this business?

All of us has grown up in the business, playing in different bands as kids in our respective local scenes. I suppose Disonic formed the way any band does. Friends within a scene decide to get together and make noise.

Who writes and produces all the material for the band?

Dave writes the basic construct for each song and then arranges the instrumental portion. I (Marq) then write melodies and lyrics over the finished music.

Has the band played in front of or with any acts our readers would know from the mainstream?

Yes, we've done shows with Nonpoint, Lacuna Coil, Black Stone Cherry, Soil, Stone Sour, Silent Civilian, Shadows Fall, and Ankla to name a few.

Where can people access your music on the web?

We can be found on iTunes, Rhapsody, Pandora, iMeem, and of course our own MySpace page (myspace.com/disonic). There are also a number of online radio stations that play our music.

Any embarrassing moments on stage?

None that I can think of, but we haven't really been around that long.

Any good stories you want to tell us?

I could try telling the story of how Shane stopped a battle of the bands performance and jumped into the crowd to defend his sister, but it was before I was in the band, so I don't really know the details.

Who are the band's musical influences?

We're all influenced by different bands, but I suppose our main collective influences are Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Dream Theater.

How did the band get together?

Dave and Shane had been in rival bands in high school and decided at some point to start working together. Chris was a student of Dave's before being asked to join as rhythm guitar. Brad and I came along a little later as part of the new lineup, after the original singer/bassist Mike Laskowski left the band.

What is your musical background like?

Mine personally? I started playing drums at age 4 and piano at age 10. I was never great at either instrument. I started taking voice lessons in my early 20s, and for some reason everything clicked for me. I've been doing it ever since.

Any other members in your family that are musicians?

Both my parents had been musicians as kids, but never pursued music full time.

What is the TOP reason why you want to play music?

It beats working at Q Interactive.

What tune on the CD are you most proud of?

It's always the last one we played.
