Interview: Forsaken

What got this band together and started in this business?

The love of metal and playing it. It was just a few guys wanting to play. I hooked up with Franc when his former band fell apart (as did mine) and we went looking for other like minded metal heads. People have come and gone but it just keeps going, like the band has a life of its own.

Who writes and produces all the material for the band?

Everyone contributes. Even if you write a whole song yourself and bring it to practice, the ideas from the other guys makes what you wrote a hundred times better. So it's truly a band thing.

Has the band played in front of or with any acts our readers would know from the mainstream?

Locally we have opened for Lamb of God, Fear Factory, Machine Head, Arch Enemy, Soilwork, Strapping Young Lad, Dark Tranquility, Hypocrisy, Mnemic, Super Joint Ritual, Opeth, Devildriver, Children of Bodom, Darkane, Throwdown, Overkill, Moonspell, Slithryn, Sanctity, and some smaller nationals.

Where can people access your music on the web?

Any embarrassing moments on stage?

Oh yeah, if I had to pick one it would be Keith taking off his shirt and the crowd yelling: "Put it back on!"

Any good stories you want to tell us?

Yeah I'd like to clear up a rumor. Rob Flynn from Machine Head is a nice guy. We had heard he was a dick but I am here to tell you he was very cool and down to earth. So don't believe everything you hear.

Who are the band's musical influences?

Slayer, Testament, Slipknot, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Pantera, old Metallica and Megadeth, SOD, MOD, Anthrax, Machine Head, Death, Killswitch Engage, Nevermore, Soulfly, Dry Kill Logic, Hatebreed, Dimmu Borgir, Grip Inc., Otep, Lamb of God, Super Joint Ritual, Devildriver, Cannibal Corpse, Exodus, Defiance and anything else heavy or interesting. A list of bands member listen to, not that we try to be (them).

How did the band get together?

Me and Franc tried to get something going, hooked up with a former drummer and then lots of tryouts. Just like minded metal heads.

What is your musical background like?

Heavy.

Any other members in your family that are musicians?

My father plays guitar as well.

What is the top reason why you want to play music?

Just love metal and playing on stage.

What's your stance on file swapping?

If it gets more people to shows, I don't care.

What is your process in making a CD?

We are in that process right now. Once you have the songs tweaked in, record them all at once. Then the mixing process, and then mastering.

How do you get the word out about your music?

Online like on MySpace, locally, flyers and demos.

How is your local response to your music?

It's been very good.

Where is the furthest you have travelled for a gig?

Not too far... Indiana, ha.

What tune on the CD are you most proud of?

ALL of them, can't pick just one really.
