Interview: The Ride

What got this band together and started in this business?

We knew each other in high school. Andy and Dan realized they had the same favorite band (Blink 182) and decided to jam together. Shortly after Justin started drumming with them, that was six years ago under the name Steraon. More recently Billy joined this past year and we decided to change our name to "The Ride". We felt it better encompassed our music and what we were trying to get across. Our music is a journey and we want to take our fans with us on "The Ride".

Who writes and produces all the material for the band?

Because we are fortunate to have our own studio, songwriting can come very easily. We get an idea in our head whether it be an idea on guitar, piano, or vocals and record a bit. Then through the magic of the studio we expand. We all take over our respective roles and instruments and help hone in on the sound we are looking for. Dan has been to a technical school called "Recording Workshop" in Chillicothe, OH so he produces not only or music but also for other local bands.

Has the band played in front of or with any acts our readers would know from the mainstream?

Though some would say Ohio is a hard place to get started we have been lucky enough to open for bands that we truly appricate their music and style such as All Time Low, Mayday Parade, Cartel and The Graduate.

Where can people access your music on the web?

Any embarrassing moments on stage?

We tend to not embarrass easily. We are full on when we are on stage we leave everything we are out there for the fans. We are true to ourselves and that includes all of our antics. Practical jokes are not uncommon, and the more we play with the same bands we find ourselves messing around with them as well.

Any good stories you want to tell us?

We played a show with All Time Low in Cleveland awhile back and Dan had been told that he looked a bit like their lead singer Alex. Before we even played girls were coming out of line, which was wrapped around the block, to ask for his signature: "Alex!! ALEX!! Can you sign my shirt!!". He'd laugh and say, "Hah umm, I'm not him." They would stop mid-jog and be like "Whaaat?!"

We played a good show and so did All Time Low. Then afterwards the whole crowd was outside of their tour bus waiting for the band to come out. Dan decided to mess with his new look-a-like fame and stand right next to their guitarist Jack in front of the bus. With his back turned to the crowd you could hear the fans all yelling, so he turned around to get mobbed by people asking for autographs. He was nice about it and told them he wasn't Alex. Except for one case, he did mess with two girls and left a voicemail on their phone saying he was Alex haha, sorry girls!
