Interview: Josh from Free the Empire |

What got this band together and started in this business?
Luke and I had played together in bands over the years. It just kinda snapped into place one day
that we wanted to try again. Alex just jumped in and was amazing. Then a few months down the
line after some changes we got Antonio. We're in it because of how much fun making music with
friends is.
Has the band played in front of or with any acts our readers would
know from the mainstream?
In the past we've played with bands like Within The Ruins, Ace Augustine, played the same festival
as This Or The Apocalypse and Texas In July (I just realized they're all metal, haha). In the
coming weeks we have shows with Runner Runner, The Pretty Reckless, The Dangerous Summer, Sparks
The Rescue, and I Call Fives.

Where can people access your music on the web?

Any embarrassing moments on stage?
We recently upgraded to wireless systems, and since the change Alex and I always seem to run
into each other. Not terrible but kinda funny.
Any good stories you want to tell us?
For our first show ever we were playing about an hour away. A light snowstorm hit the area, but
we didn't think enough to stop us. We were leaving from Alex's, which is in the middle of
nowhere, and we got stuck in a huge drift. We called the promoter to try and cancel, and he
wasn't having any of it. Our idea to get traction? Smashed up potato chips. It didn't really
work. Lucky, a stranger in an orange jumpsuit dug us out and we were only slightly late.
Who are the band's musical influences?
If I had to really put a finger on it, I'd say New Found Glory, Blink 182, Sum 41, Four Year
Strong, A Day To Remember, Story of the Year, The Wonder Years, Veara... This isn't even
close to all of them.
How did the band get together?
With the exception of Antonio (he used to be in We Go Sailing before they broke up), all the
bands we had played in were pretty much the result of jam sessions when we were first learning
to play. Years of that led us to be able to give it a real shot.
What is your musical background like?
Luke's entire family is musically talented. I believe that's it, but I'm not entirely sure.
What is the top reason why you want to play music?
I get to do what I love, having more fun then I ever have, all alongside my best friends.
It's that simple.
What has been your best show?
Some of the best we've had have been small ones, but I'd have to say LAUNCH Music Conference
or CI Records Christmas Show this past year. They're all amazing, haha.
