Interview: Carly Dee

What got you started in this business?

I have always loved music and singing but I struggled with confidence through my teens, it wasn't till I became more aware of how much I needed to do this for myself that I decided to seek help. I met a couple of musicians and and artist management company who got me on the right track.

Who writes and produces all the material for you?

There are three of us who come up with the material (Dean Muscat and David Mackeeg) we work with a fantastic producer based in London (Oscar Music Productions) we really have fun in producing our songs, I think it really comes across in the recordings.

Has the band played in front of or with any acts our readers would know from the mainstream?

I have some festivals coming up during the summer so I may be!

Where can people access your music on the web?

www.facebook.com/carlydaley

Twitter: @carlydeemusic
or iTunes.

Any embarrassing moments on stage?

All farily usual, one night I had three mics fail on me. I use wireless mics wherever I can as I tend to trip on wires, so I'm sure this is yet to happen... please don't let that be a reason to watch me live!

Who are your musical influences?

Well, my musical team and I have such a varied musical background! One is into heavy rock, the other perfect pop and I love both genres so we all work perfectly together! My live band are more into rock so when we perform the songs live they tend to get a little carried away! Sounds awesome!

What is your musical background like?

I grew up listening to what my parents were listening to, as does everyone. They ranged from Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Tracey Chapman, Beverly Craven, Belinda Carlisle. Through my teens I was into pop/boy bands. I'm now very much into rock/pop music such as Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, I love Katy Perry and Taylor Swift's perfect pop songs. I absolutely love Paramore, Flyleaf, Leona Lewis, The Blackout, you me at six.

Any other members in your family that are musicians?

No, nobody!

What is the top reason why you want to play music?

Now I have finally found the confidence I just wanna be heard and if people love what they hear then that makes me so happy. I know that the last minute decision to follow my dream was worth it and I will continue!

What has been your best show?

I have enjoyed performing within intimate acoustic venues to large outdoor full band festivals across the UK - they are both exciting. I love performing acoustically more for the pureness it gives the songs, to strip them right back to one guitar and a mic, I can really express how the songs make me feel and tell the story to the audience. Full band performances are awesome, full of energy! hearing all of the instruments that are in the recorded tracks is amazing, my band are amazing musicians.
