Interview: Megyn Hermez
What got you in this business?
I sang and wrote at an early age, but was a dancer growing up. I ended up on a world tour back up
dancing for R&B artist, Charlie Wilson, and music fell right back into my lap.
Who writes and produces all of yourmaterial?
My producer is Charlie Wilson's MD. His name is Cordell Walton, and I co produced along with him.
I'm behind all the lyrics and vocal arrangements.
Have you played in front of or with any acts our readers would know from the mainstream?
None yet, but that's in the works.
Where can people access your music on the web?
You can find my music at www.megynhermez.com. My website will direct you to
Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. My single, "Mary Jane" is up for free download on Facebook right
now! Go get it!

Any embarrassing moments on stage?
To be honest not that I can remember. I've been on stage since I was 8, and as a dancer there was
always wardrobe malfunctions... the stage is my home, I'm too comfortable to be embarrassed.
Any good stories you want to tell us?
Well I have million stories, there's really not one that comes to mind. Most of my best stories and
experiences took place on the road. And what happens on the road, stays on the road.
Who are the band's musical influences?
My music influence is Amy Winehouse. Always has been and always will be. She's brilliant.
What is your musical background like?
I grew up in choir. When I quit school I still kept up with vocal lessons, and guitar. Guitar was
very inconsistent and still is because it's difficult to find time for everything. I still take
vocal lessons, and I'm taking theory as we speak!
Any other members in your family that are musicians?
My grandfather is an Iraqi singer, my uncles all grew up in bands. My aunt is a very talented
writer, and could write music if she cared to. And another aunt of mine studied guitar for a long
time as well.
What is the top reason why you want to play music?
I wouldn't say I play music because I want to. I believe that I need to. I wouldn't be mentally
healthy without it. And I want to inspire others.
What has been your best show?
My best show was at the Cutting Room on Sunset Blvd. It's a great place to play, it's got amazing
energy. I had a residency, but one show in particular was this last August when my family, and old
dance teacher was in town from Michigan. I had a lot of support, and it felt like home in
Hollywood... which is a rare feeling!
