Who writes and produces all of your material?
I write all of the songs on my album Shine and the album was co-produced by myself and
Carmen Grillo.
Where can people access your music on the web?
My website is jeffjohnsonofficial.com. My album
Shine is available on Amazon and iTunes (among others).
Any embarrassing moments on stage?
We once played background music for a belly dancer!
Who are your musical influences?
Beatles, Tears For Fears, Brian Wilson, Elton John and so many more.
What is your musical background like?
My brother Randy and I began writing songs together when we were teenagers with the goal of making
it big in the music business which led to several years of playing in various bands culminating
with my late 1980s band Chalk Farm which found success in the Chicago club scene, headlining at
the legendary Cabaret Metro and Park West among other venues.
After Chalk Farm broke up at the end of the decade, I came to Los Angeles and found success as a
dance music artist in the mid 1990s with two club hits – my own song "Whenever You're Lonely" and
a dance cover of the Bee Gees' "How Deep Is Your Love" (which appeared on over 30 compilation
albums in Asia). Both singles were released on my own Interhit Records label founded along with
my partner remixer/producer Chris Cox. Interhit had a great run until the end of the 90s - selling
over a million units and winning Grammy. After Interhit closed, I formed label/distributor Megahit
Records and finally a few years ago began writing songs again. The result is my new
album Shine.
Any other members in your family that are musicians?
My brother Randy plays bass and sings. We're writing songs together again working together on a
new album for 2012!
What is the top reason why you want to play music?
I’ve been playing music since I was 9. It's how I express myself.
What has been your best show?
Playing Cabaret Metro and Park West in Chicago with my band Chalk Farm. Amazing!
