Loonie inches back up to par
|
|
|
|
After a period of topsy turvey in the negative end, the Canadian Dollar
is barely above par against the American greenback in recent trading.
The loonie reached a record high of $1.10 US in November, and had
dropped to as low as 98 cents before its recent rally.

Canwest Global takeover approved
|
|
|
|
Ottawa has approved the takeover of media giant Alliance Atlantis by
Canwest Global Communications, in a deal worth $2.5-billion.
The takeover involves a major investment by American investment firm
Goldman Sachs. The original deal was modified to satisfy CRTC requirements.

US passport rule delayed
|
|
|
|
The use of Photo ID to enter the United States has been extended to
June 2009, according to a bill passed on Thursday in Washington.
The passport requirement was originally called for in the summer of
2008 for land and sea borders.

Passports are still mandatory when flying into or through the US.
