Interview: StrongPoint

StrongPoint is:
Rice - Vocals
Sunday - Guitar
Josh - Bass
Ryan - Guitar/Vocals
Nick - Drums

What got this band together and started in this business?

I would hate to say love for music in general. We all enjoy playing music and writing together.

Who writes and produces all the material for the band?

We write all of the music together. One of us will come to practice with a riff or idea and we all work it out together. We have a great chemistry when it comes to that. As far as lyrics go, Rice usually will write the lyrics and Ryan will get with him on that for vocal melodies and such.

Has the band played in front of or with any acts our readers would know from the mainstream?

Yeah a few. Edgewater, Flaw, Rehab, Faktion were some of that got mainstream radio spin. We have also played with a few great regional touring bands, The Feds, Deaf Pedestrians, Early Pearl, Dawn Over Zero, et cetera...

Where can people access your music on the web?

Any embarrassing moments on stage?

Ha, why does everyone ask that? I would have to say a lot of embarrassing moments but maybe we were to drunk to remember? Haha.

Who are the band's musical influences?

I would have to say each other. We all like different types and styles of music.

How did the band get together?

Sunday started the band in 2004. He found Rice through musician classifieds. They are the only two original members. Josh, Ryan and Nick were all in different bands before StrongPoint but played some of the same bills with StrongPoint. I would say fate had a big deal to do with it and we all ended up jamming together.

What is your musical background like?

We were all in different bands before StrongPoint. Sunday was in 30 Trap and Bad First Date. Rice used to be in a few bands in high school and was in a band called Rhythm Child in Austin, TX. They actually went on a small tour with Blues Traveler. Josh used to be in a couple of bands with his brother called Element and Modern Day Relief. Ryan used to sing and play guitar in a band called Silversmith and played guitar for Zoma. Nick has been a drummer since he was a kid. He played for a band called Afflicted and another band called Elocation.

Any other members in your family that are musicians?

Yeah we all have had someone in the family that played music.

What is the top reason why you want to play music?

We all love it. Music is life to us.

What has been your best show?

I would have to say when we opened up for Flaw @ Firewater Bar and Grill in Dallas, TX. We played the opening slot and the place was packed. We saw a lot of new faces that night and made a ton of new fans. A lot of people came up to us and told us that we should not have been the opener. That was a great thing to hear!
