Interview: Operation Fear
What got this band together and started in this business?
Justin and Jeremy went to the same high school. A few years after they had
graduated, they started jamming and decided to look for a singer and drummer.
It was pretty casual at first, but after Justin suggested Brenden, his brother,
for a singer, it became apparent that they had something good going. After that,
they began looking for a drummer.
Several drummers came and went. It was very
difficult, at first, to find a drummer with the same dedication and drive to
becoming a professional musician. After the revolving door of flake drummers,
no-shows and failed auditions, the trio got a myspace message "You're a band
looking for a drummer, I'm a drummer looking for a band" and that was all it
took. It became clear during the first audition that Daniel had talent and drive
to make things happen and we've been working hard ever since.
Who writes and produces all the material for the band?
It's a collective effort. Everyone brings their own piece to the puzzle. We
often will build off of a guitar riff that Jeremy's been working on or something
that Justin's working on the bass. We all work on the songs' structures and
progression. Daniel then lays down some sick drums. While the song is being
worked on, B will find some lyrics to add to the song or write it as the song
progresses.
Has the band played in front of or with any acts our readers would
know from the mainstream?
Not that we're aware of, but we are very excited to be playing a show with
Hemlock on September 11th.
Where can people access your music on the web?
After we finish our EP it will be available on most major digital distribution
outlets such as iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Napster, etc. And we should have some
video up on youtube.com soon!
Any embarrassing moments on stage?
Justin once had some kind of stomach virus and in the middle of a song, he puked
all over and off the stage. It was nasty, but he kept his composure and some how
nailed the rest of the set.
