Interview: TrashQueen

What got this band together and started in this business?

We formed the band on New Years Eve 2010 at a party because we wanted to write some modern music that appealed to our tastes that we could personaly enjoy and hoped that others would also enjoy.

Who writes and produces all the material for the band?

Sean (singer/guitarist) writes and produces all the music...

Has the band played in front of or with any acts our readers would know from the mainstream?

We have not yet played with any mainstream acts however we are in contact with LA Guns and Violent Soho so there may be hopes for shows with both of those bands in the near future.

Where can people access your music on the web?

MySpace: www.myspace.com/trashqueen10
ReverbNation: www.reverbnation.com/trashqueen10
triple j Unearthed: www.triplejunearthed.com/trashqueen

Any embarrassing moments on stage?

Well... there have been a few drunken occassions when the odd member has fallen over or collapsed and also an onstage domestic where brothers Sean and Wayne began fighting before the start of the next song (this was caught on DVD)...

Any good stories you want to tell us?

We played a show at Rosie's Tavern and some old punk guy was hassling us while we were playing. He tried to grab the mic while Sean was singing to yell into it so Sean grabbed the mic and bashed him in the face. This resorted in an all out brawl in the parking lot where we had to try and fend him and his mates off while we loaded the gear into the trailer.

Who are the band's musical influences?

Guns N' Roses, Bon Jovi, Skid Row, Powderfinger, Violent Soho, Nirvana, Alice in Chains... basically all the great rock legends of the past few decades.

What is your musical background like?

Sean and Wayne spent a lot of time playing around Brisbane in punk bands. Nik is a jazz player turned hard rock bassist. Some of the members of the band have studied music industry buisness and are heavily envolved with local venues, labels, promo agencies etc.

Any other members in your family that are musicians?

Nik's grandfather used to own a music shop that had one of those seedy smokey basements that his own and all the other Brisbane rock bands used to play in. Tex Perkins is somehow related or affiliated with Nik's family also.

What is the top reason why you want to play music?

Because it's an expression of voice and it really lets us communicate with people. It shows who we are and gives you a feeling like no other... and the women aren't too bad either!

What has been your best show?

Definitely Rosie's Tavern...
