Interview: Calling All War

What got this band together and started in this business?

I am to blame... Jonathan, Millard and I have been in and out of bands together for what seems like forever. We decided that we wanted to play in a hard rock band, then we recruited Lynyrd and Martin, and have not looked back since.

Who writes and produces all the material for the band?

Each song has a unique story of how it came into the world, but for the most part we write the music part of the songs together as a band, then Martin will write the lyrics sometimes Matt and Lynyrd will help with the lyrics as well.

Has the band played in front of or with any acts our readers would know from the mainstream?

We have had the pleasure to share the stage with Drowning Pool, Buckcherrry, Fuel, Mushroomhead, Rehab, Styx, Twisted Sister, Texas Hippie Coalition, Framing Hanley, Seasons After, Neverset, Ember, Parabelle, The Better Death, Moving Atlas, Mothers Anthem...

Where can people access your music on the web?

We are currently on iTunes and Amazon.com.

Any embarrassing moments on stage?

Well... I have fallen off the stage, and once I tried to power slide across the stage and fell flat on my face... we really try to put on a show and sometimes you will bleed to make that happen!

Any good stories you want to tell us?

I plead the fifth on most stuff... but I got to play a show with Twisted Sister and right after the show I won a JJ French signature guitar that he signed...

Who are the band's musical influences?

Well we all like a lot off different music but for me: Deftones, Helmet, The Cure, Bush, Karnivool, Muse, Bloc Party, 36 Crazyfists, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Sword, Baroness, Mastodon, Clutch, Kyuss are some of my biggest influences for what I want to do with this band.

How did the band get together?

Funny thing is that we all come from Grunge/Alternative/Punk bands except Martin. He was in a comedy band that he sang and played the violin in.

Any other members in your family that are musicians?

I think Millard's dad was the only family member that I know was a musician...

What is the top reason why you want to play music?

I love to entertain, I like being in front of people, and really music is really my only passion, other than that I am very boring...

What has been your best show?

Really the coolest show for me was the Garage to Ozz battle of the bands. Mainly because it was the first time I really felt like I was a rock star. Just a really cool vibe from the crowd!
