Interview: Lance Lopez

What got you started in this business?

My love of music started in the womb. As soon as I was born the first person I ever saw on TV was Elvis Presley and the rest is history...

Who writes and produces all the material?

I mainly write a majority of the music, or I pick really cool songs to cover. Jim Gaines produced my last CD as is going to produce my upcoming project. Jim is truly amazing and has worked with some of the most legendary people like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Miller, Carlos Santana, and Buddy Guy.

Have you played in front of or with any acts our readers would know from the mainstream?

Well let's see I've opened for B.B. King, Rod Stewart, Jeff Beck, ZZ Top, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Steve Vai, Joe Bonamassa, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Ten Years After, Jimmy Cliff, Molly Hatchet, Edgar Winter, Rick Derringer, Pat Travers, April Wine, Frank Marino and Mahogony Rush, John Hammond Jr., Cornell Dupree, Little Feat, Tower of Power, Roomful of Blues, Dr. John, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Guitar Watson, Little Richard, Jimmie Vaughan, Bootsy Vollins, Junior Wells, and a whole lot more I just can't think of right now, haha.

Where can people access your music on the web?

MySpace and Amazon.com, iTunes... I'm also on Facebook pretty much nonstop and if I'm not promoting my own music I share with everyone my musical influences and the music I love and listen to.

Any embarrassing moments on stage?

Probably passing out onstage and splitting my head open on a broken cymbal when I fell into the drum kit... ugh.

Who are your musical influences?

All the great guitarists: Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Angus Young, SRV, Johnny Winter, ZZ Top, BB King, Albert King, Freddie King... and all the classic bands.

What is your musical background like?

I had bands in junior high and high school... But after high school I went out on the road as a sideman in Soul and R&B Groups on the "Chitlin' Circuit" - the same circuit Jimi Hendrix was a sideman with R&B groups on 30 years before. After years of that I put my own band together and started making recordings and started to travel more and more with my own group playing hard rocking Blues all over the world and here we are...

Any other members in your family that are musicians?

I had a few family members that played piano or violin a little by ear but nothing serious. My father was a huge music fan and he and Elvis Presley were army buddies, so he really encouraged me musically...

What is the top reason why you want to play music?

To share the talent I was blessed with, with the world and to support my family while doing so.

What has been your best show?

Very hard to say... I hope the next show will be the best one...
