Interview: Gunpowder Secrets |
What got this band together and started in this business?
Mo and Greg were the first people each other met in Los Angeles at Musicians Institute back in '06.
Mo always had the idea of starting Gunpowder Secrets, but it wasn't until 2009 that those dreams
came together to really start something that not only did the band enjoy playing, but also become
a viable business and marketable force to be reckoned with. After some minor line-up changes, we
solidified with the group we have today. Everyone loves music, loves playing and are great friends.
We couldn't really ask for much more.
Who writes and produces all the material for the band?
Everyone shares a part in writing and producing. Sometimes Mo will come up with a hook and we build
on that, sometimes it's Brandon, Greg or Nathan will come up with a loose structure and some riffs
and we build on that. All in all, every song has a piece from everyone.
Has the band played in front of or with any acts our readers would
know from the mainstream?
We most recently played with Boy Hits Car and will be playing with Bullets and Octane and Warner
in Los Angeles in the coming months. We have been fortunate for our fan base in Los Angeles to
grow to a point where we can be more than self efficient, but, teaming up on national act shows
is always great!
Where can people access your music on the web?
We have it up about everywhere:
www.facebook.com/gunpowdersecrets
www.reverbnation.com/gunpowdersecrets
www.myspace.com/gunpowdersecrets
www.gunpowdersecrets.com
www.innsbruckrecords.com/artists/gunpowdersecrets
And of course, our album "Something That's Worth It" is available on iTunes and Amazon along with
the remix album "The Bear Bones"!
Any embarrassing moments on stage?
I'm sure everyone has been there at some point. Mo getting hit in the head with Greg's guitar, Greg
getting hit in the face (in slow motion on YouTube) with a ball, and more will come, but it's GPS,
it's fun for us and stuff happens sometimes. We have fun with it all, if we wanted to get angry or
embarrassed when something bad happens we'd all go do things we don't enjoy.
