Interview: 7th heaven

What got this band together and started in this business?

In 1985, we were young kids who wanted to write and perform music. We decided to start 7th heaven.

Who writes and produces all the material for the band?

I (Richie Hofherr) produce the band and write most of our music and some lyrics. Keith Semple writes as well. The rest is a mix of the other band members, past band members and other writers we work with for various songs.

Has the band played in front of or with any acts our readers would know from the mainstream?

Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Kid Rock, Rick Springfield, Meat Loaf, Bret Michaels, Styx, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, The Fixx, Ratt, Warrant, Jefferson Starship, Firehouse, Survivor, Huey Lewis & The News, Leeann Rimes and many many more.

Where can people access your music on the web?

7thheavenband.com, iTunes, Amazon.com, YouTube...

Any embarrassing moments on stage?

We have all fallen at one time or another over the years... haha!

Any good stories you want to tell us?

Playing Solider's Field in Chicago was amazing. It was the first time we pointed to the sky while signing and there actually was a crowd of people there.

Who are the band's musical influences?

So many: Def Leppard, Queen, Bon Jovi, Eagles, Rick Springfield, Bryan Adams, Duran Duran, Dan Reed Network, Michael Jackson and many more.

What is your musical background like?

We all come from different background. When we get together we create our own kind of soup of inspiration that creates our sound.

Any other members in your family that are musicians?

Yes; grandfather was in a big jazz band in the Chicago area in the 40s.

What is the top reason why you want to play music?

To express emotions and share that with an audience; when the connection is made, nothing else matters. You can forget about health problems, money problems, work issues, family issues, relationship issues, etc.. when you are in a moment with music. I love that connection.

What has been your best show?

Soliders Field 2010. 80,000 people.
