The concrete jungle that is Tokyo's Akihabara district is definitely a place to visit when it comes to anime (Japanese animation) and electronics but on Sundays, the Chuo-dori (central street) shuts down... literally.
Sweat beaded down my neck and I was ready to get into something air-conditioned when I suddenly saw a police officer set up pylons as I walked down the street from the station. Cars were being diverted and suddenly, people were coming in from all the directions where I could see.
Some were wearing the most unusual costumes and for a minute, I thought George Michael was in town.
Spruikers with megaphones lined the Chuo-dori and started to promote their goods with somewhat-moderated volume. The street, a whole eight lanes, were suddenly empty and bustling with people.
I'm amazed at how the Japanese can be so pleasant even if the street was now dedicated to foot traffic. A slight majority of folks still leaned onto the sidewalk and followed the traffic lights even if there was no presence of any cars on the street.
Either folks are pleasant or they were completely ignorant. That kind of thinking is probably beyond my theories.
I reckon that this is their ticket on a train that takes one far away from daily life. Like the vacation I'm taking, the purpose of this visit in the first place. They were probably taking a vacation from the ordinary.
A few more photos here and there. And I got to pass a camera crew filming me walking past in the background. This would mark my third television appearance so far in my life.
Maybe I am "cosplaying".
