What is with the month of August that there are no holidays during its 31 days?
How did that happen?
|
  |
Actually there are some noted days during the month but they are vague and never
talked about outside of the certain circles they include.
|
  |
For instance, the month begins with Friendship Day on Aug. 1. Do you know
anyone who celebrates this day? Do you know how to celebrate that day? Are we
supposed to be happy for friends we already have or are we supposed to go out
and make more?
|
  |
If you go to a store that sells greeting cards (because there are no stores
where greeting cards are free) can you find Friendship Day cards?
|
  |
And just how do you appreciate a friend? Do you sit back and think about a
friend? Do you take a friend out for dinner? That isn't fair, really, because
you are a friend to your friend, so how do you decide which one of you picks up
the bill? Even if you go dutch, do you share the tip 50-50, 60-40 or what?

Ramadan is an Islamic holiday that takes place through a couple of weeks in
August. But I have never lived in a community where there were enough Islamic
people for me to see any sign of the holiday. I don't even know what signs one
can find that relate to the holiday. I don't even know what Ramadan means. I
could Google the word but I just don't have the time or energy.

On Aug. 15 Assumption Day arrives. At least I assume it arrives. But is that
what is meant by "assumption"? Why would there be a holiday about assuming? The
word must have another meaning, one that warrants it being named a holiday. I
could look it up in a dictionary but I just don't have the time or energy.

Aug. 19 is National Aviation Day but there is no specific nation attached to it.
It must be a big nation, since I doubt if backwards nations have flying
vehicles. All nations have flying objects but that doesn't mean they are going
to celebrate them. Besides, not every flying object flys on its own; some things
just fall or get tossed.
