I am giving pause to the writing of a new play so I thought I would ask the opinion of my readers. Should I continue my theater piece? Please read the dialogue from Act 1, Scene 1 that I have presented below and then answer the questions following. This will tell me if people are understanding the depth of my theme, symbolism and the message of the play. Thank you in advance.

The scene: A hollow log in a forest where a tree has fallen but no one was there to hear the sound it made when it hit the ground.

Enter Elroy Samantha, 33, a man tortured by having the last name of a beautiful girl. He is wearing a tank top and heavy boots, while his middle is clothed with a flag of Tunisia.

Elroy looks at the fallen tree and begins to cry as the flag he is wearing goes to half mast.

Enter Janet Janelsabub, 33, the sole proprietor of a lemonade stand she has run since she was six years old.

Janet looks at Elroy.

JANET:
Nothing in your life is upstanding, dear Elroy. So it is you cry at the bark that is worst than its bite.

ELROY:
Bite me, Janet. Where is your dog?

JANET:
Someone is taking Petri Dish for a walk.

ELROY:
(Looks Janet straight in the eye with scorn)
That dog is filled with germs and you let other people pet it and pick the junk out from between its toes. No wonder you weren't here to hear the tree fall.

JANET:
What could I have done if I were here?

ELROY:
You would have heard if you were here.

JANET:
Why do you treat me this way?

ELROY:
Which way?

JANET:
How you are treating me now, here, as you insist I would hear the tree fall if I were here. Still, you don't hear anywhere, or me, not here.

End Act 1, Scene 1

Elroy straddles the fallen tree trunk, puts his head in his hands and begins to cry again, this time longer and harder.

Okay, now the questions. Refer to the scene if you must before answering.

1. Is Elroy a Native American or the son of a forest ranger?
2. Does Janet represent a famous woman that made a marked impression upon sexual attitudes in North America from the years 1865 to 1910?
3. Is it wise to name a dog Petri Dish?
4. When Elroy initially sees the fallen tree, does he cry for its destruction or for the torment of drug addiction?
5. Can you make a case for Janet following Elroy into the forest if you consider the canine theme in the dialogue?
6. To what degree do you feel the relationship between Elroy and Janet is a metaphor for man and woman in a forest talking about Nature?

Thank you for your help.
