I have been all over the United States, from east to west and from north to south. Now, once again,
I am going to use this blog to write about some of the states I love. These will be random
remembrances but I know you will like them, especially if you live in any of these states.
Missouri was always called "The Show Me State" and when I was there once I ran into a group of men
who started a club for men who exposed themselves in public. It was no surprise that when winter
came they couldn't flash people without getting frostbite but that didn't stop them from publicly
describing what was under their clothing.
New York is like any other state if you go outside of New York City. I was in Buffalo some years
back and was surprised that an engineer of the Lackawanna Railroad Company allowed me to drive the
train from Buffalo to Batavia, having never driven a train before.
I recall the mornings in Arkansas when the summer sun would paint the first hours of dawn with a
shade of red I had never witnessed in any other state except Washington, Iowa, Kansas and New Mexico.
Speaking of New Mexico, I was amazed to find out that the federal government owns a lot of land
there and on most of it is housed unavailable-to-the-public outposts titled Area 48, Area 49 and
Area 50.

It was strange talking to blue-collar workers in Michigan when speaking of the United States since
every one of them was convinced Kalamazoo was the original capitol of the country.
I was cross-country skiing once in Washington when my fellow skiers and I collided with
cross-country skiers going in the opposite direction. In a matter of a half hour, the editors of
"The Guinness Book of World Records" were on the scene to document that this was the first such
collision ever to occur in cross-country skiing.
When I asked a member of the Guinness staff why
they did not document the death that occurred from the accident (one of the people in the other
group was fatally wounded from the collision) he said, "I don't know, I guess we missed it."
