Who are the band's musical influences?

Individually, we all have VERY different influences; jass, death metal, R&B, emo, etc. We're all so different that you'd think we wouldn't be able to blend our styles. What we do, however, is separate our influences from what we do as a band.

Ten Year Vamp is pop rock, and that's what we expect each other to bring to the table. As a band, I would say we are influenced by the current trends in rock music as well as what is being done in the world of pop. We want to be somewhere in the middle of the Foo Fighters and Pink.

What is your musical background like?

Each of us have backgrounds soaked with music. I got into music in 4th grade when I learned to play the alto saxophone. I played all through high school, took private lessons and sat first chair in All State band. After high school, I took up the guitar.

I thought the guitar was cool, because I could play and sing at the same time (as opposed to playing the sax, where obviously, that's not possible). I played guitar all through college, and we'd just hang out and drink and smoke and make music casually. Then I auditioned to be a back up singer in a cover band to get some extra cash. I got the gig and stuck with that for a while until I met Mark and we started 10YV.

Any other members in your family that are musicians?

My father played drums in high school and college, and had a killer voice. My sister also got the "music gene". She took vocal lessons for years, and had she decided to take the music path, she could have been very successful on Broadway.

What is the top reason why you want to play music?

It's my therapy and it keeps me sane. It's how I express myself when I'm happy, when I'm sad, when I'm angry, when I'm depressed, etc. Some people take pills, some people go to counseling... we make music. I'm more "myself" on stage in front of hundreds of people, then when I'm sitting at home by myself.

What has been your best show?

That's a though one. We're recently played our 600th show, so we keep pretty busy.

I guess opening for Aerosmith at the Syracuse, NY State Fair to 17,000 people was probably our best show. The stage and lights were great, the crowd was great and we got to meet Steven Tyler and the rest of the band. Also, when you play with national artists, there's always a "catering tent" where they have buffet style food for the artists and crew. Getting to eat steak in the catering tent is WAAAY better then the food available to you when you're on the road and eating rest stop food!
